FAQ

Iridium GO

TheIridium Go is aimed at all those wishing to remain reachable or communicate anywhere on the planet in voice or data mode. This box is autonomous for the emergency service and GPS geolocation. Due to its mobility, it is recommended for nomads (travelers, boaters, motorhome drivers, transporters, adventurers, isolated workers, reporters, diplomats, soldiers and more generally fans of spaces beyond the reach of mobile telephone networks). Who says nomad, mainly says mobile or tablet use. It works at altitude too.

This technology allows you to use your Smartphone as if it were a satellite phone.

Better yet, your tablet can be connected to this hotspot via wifi and you can check your emails, send, tweet, access your social networks, share photos, receive GRIB weather files. It is the ideal travel companion.

Ability to create and view emails offline, queue emails to send them faster, retrieve emails from external accounts.

More than a modem, you can benefit from GPS geolocation and send an SOS signal in case of distress.

This case is compatible with your computer but it will clearly be for advanced use. We strongly recommend that you receive help from our technical consultant with its installation, configuration and use.

With its integrated antenna and battery-powered case, the Iridium GO connects quickly and automatically to the Iridium satellite constellation. This creates a Wi-Fi hotspot around the device with a radius of approximately 30 meters (100 feet).

To optimize signal performance, we recommend using an unobstructed external antenna and isolating the housing and antenna from any electromagnetic interference (electronic, mechanical, electrical). Voice mode and SOS button are available at signal strength of 1/5 while data is available from 3/5.

The external antenna provides better reception of the satellite signal, especially in a cloudy atmosphere. It does not improve the speed but makes the signal more reliable to ensure telephone reception and faster file downloading. It is compulsory on boats with thick hulls or steel and on certain recent boats very equipped with electronics. The external antenna allows the capture of the satellite signal to be transferred outside and does not improve the WIFI signal, the WIFI antenna being internal.

Connect the small end of the external antenna adapter cable (sold separately) to the device and the large connector (TNC) to your Iridium-certified external antenna.

Secure the Iridium GO device and place the external antenna in an open location. Lift the device's antenna to turn on Iridium GO and to register on the Iridium network. The antenna must be above the balconies to improve the signal if a satellite is not exactly vertical.

The device's internal antenna must be kept raised while the Iridium GO is operating.

The standard data transmission speed without compression is 2.4Kbits per second. Or an equivalence of 0.3kb/s when the satellite is reachable. With applications powered by Iridium, this throughput can be accelerated by 15 times. Iridium data communications are optimal for small GRIB weather files and text-formatted emails.

Whether it is an email with an attachment or a GRIB file download, it is recommended not to exceed the size of 50KB. A 10KB file will download in less than 5 minutes and a 100KB GRIB file will download on average in 30 minutes with possible cuts, which in some cases block the download.

Iridium GO! exec

Iridium GO! exec works anywhere on the planet's surface with a clear view of the sky.

Was this article helpful? 0 0

Iridium GO! exec requires a connection to the Iridium® satellite network. The swivel antenna must be vertical to the ground and have a clear, unobstructed view of the sky. For optimal performance, the antenna should be able to "see" the entire sky from about 8 degrees above the horizon. Proximity to tall buildings or similar structures, heavily deciduous trees, and mountains may adversely affect performance because it blocks the signal between the antenna and the satellites. Having a completely unobstructed view of the sky plays a very important role in optimizing performance, as Iridium satellites move across the sky from the northern horizon to the southern horizon or vice versa during a connected call.
