Iridium Go! and Iridium Go! exec FAQs
Iridium GO
TheIridium Go is for anyone who wants to be reachable or communicate anywhere on the planet in voice or data mode. This box is autonomous for emergency services and GPS geolocation. Because of its mobility, it is recommended for nomads (travellers, yachtsmen, camper vans, transporters, adventurers, isolated workers, reporters, diplomats, military personnel and more generally those who live in areas beyond the reach of mobile phone networks). Nomadic means mainly mobile or tablet use. It also works at altitude.
This technology allows you to use your smartphone as if it were a satellite phone.
Even better, your tablet can be connected to this wifi hotspot and you can check your emails, send, tweet, access your social networks, share photos, receive GRIB weather files. It's the perfect travel companion.
Ability to create and view emails in offline mode, queue emails to send them faster, retrieve emails from external accounts.
More than a modem, you can take advantage of GPS geolocation and send an SOS signal in case of distress.
This box is compatible with your computer but will clearly be for advanced use. We strongly recommend that you are assisted by our technical consultant in its installation, setup and use.
Iridium GO works worldwide. Network access even to the NORTH and SOUTH poles is included.
The following is included in the original packaging:
● The WIFI/Satellite modem with its foldable antenna.
● A lithium battery
● A universal AC travel charger with 4 international adapters
● A USB charging cable
● 12v DC adapter (car charger)
● A protective sun cover
● The legal information brochure
● The GEOS emergency services brochure
With its built-in antenna and battery-powered case, the Iridium GO quickly and automatically connects to the Iridium satellite constellation. This creates a Wi-Fi hotspot around the device with a radius of approximately 30 metres (100 feet).
To optimise signal performance, we recommend using a clear external antenna and isolating the housing and antenna from any electromagnetic interference (electronic, mechanical, electrical). The voice mode and SOS button are available at a signal strength of 1/5 while data is available at 3/5.
The Iridium Go is a stand-alone box with the following features:
Length: 81.7 mm (3.22″) - Width: 119.81 mm (4.69″) - Depth: 33.44 mm (1.32″) - Weight (approx): 300g (with battery) / 225g (without battery).
The Iridium
GO works anywhere in the world, including the NORTH and SOUTH poles.
18 knowing two system accounts are already registered: guest (admin) and SBD (Module iridium Message).
The external antenna provides better reception of the satellite signal, especially in a cloudy atmosphere. It does not improve throughput, but makes the signal more reliable for telephone reception and faster file downloading. It is mandatory on boats with thick or steel hulls and on some recent boats with a high level of electronic equipment. The external antenna allows the satellite signal to be picked up outside and does not improve the WIFI signal, the WIFI antenna being internal.
Connect the small end of the external antenna adapter cable (sold separately) to the unit and the large connector (TNC) to your external Iridium certified antenna.
Attach the Iridium GO device and place the external antenna in an open area. Lift the antenna off the unit to switch on Iridium GO and to register on the Iridium network. The antenna should be over balconies to improve the signal if a satellite is not stacked vertically.
The internal antenna of the device must be kept upright during operation of the Iridium GO.
The battery standby time is up to 15 hours and the battery talk time is up to 5 hours. With the automatic sending of the GPS position, the standby time is up to 8 hours.
The standard uncompressed data rate is 2.4Kbits per second. This is equivalent to 0.3kb/s when the satellite is reachable. With Iridium-optimised applications, this rate can be increased by up to 15 times. Iridium data communications are optimal for small GRIB weather files and text-based emails.
Whether it is an email with an attachment or a GRIB file download, it is advisable not to exceed the size of 50Kb. A 10Kb file will download in less than 5 minutes and a 100Kb GRIB file will download in 30 minutes on average with possible breaks, which in some cases block the download.
Iridium GO comes with a universal AC travel charger with 4 international adapters and a DC 12V cigarette lighter adapter to work with the maximum number of power sources.
No & Yes, your email client does not support Iridium optimised compression and TXT encoding. Iridium GO! exec
Iridium GO! exec works anywhere on the surface of the planet with a clear view of the sky.
Iridium GO! exec requires a connection to the Iridium® satellite network. The swivel antenna must be vertical to the ground and have a clear view of the sky. For optimum performance, the antenna should be able to "see" the entire sky from approximately 8 degrees above the horizon. Proximity to tall buildings or similar structures, heavily foliated trees and mountains can hinder performance by blocking the signal between the antenna and the satellites. Having a completely clear view of the sky is very important in optimizing performance, as the Iridium satellites move across the sky from north to south or vice versa during a connected call.

To access applications that require browsing or Internet access, connect your smart device to the Iridium GO! exec Wi-Fi network. Use the Iridium GO exec application or the Iridium GO! exec device to start a data session via the connection manager by choosing an appropriate activity profile. Use a standard application/web browser as you normally would to access the Internet via the Iridium satellite network. Applications and websites with heavy graphic, multimedia or video content will not work on this product.
Because satellite data connections are slower and more expensive than traditional Internet connections, it is important to allow only the data you want to pass through the satellite network. Activity profiles define the rules for allowing or blocking traffic on the satellite network. Your Iridium GO exec already contains a set of predefined profiles. Or if you want to create your own profiles, you can do so from the setting: Device Settings Activity Profiles in the Iridium GO! exec application.
It is important to make sure you use the most appropriate activity profile when making data connections, as the activity profile will allow you to use the tools you want and prevent other applications on your PC or smart device from also using internet data in the background. Also, make sure you don't leave the connection running when it's not needed. To help you out, the Connection Manager feature offers a drop-down list to choose a session duration.
You can monitor your upload and download usage from the data connection screen (scroll to the bottom). Note that the numbers shown here are approximate values and should not be used for billing purposes. The usage counter can be reset from the Administrator menu or the Iridium GO! exec application and you can also monitor your data usage in the Settings: Device Settings Billing and Monitoring in the Iridium GO! exec application.
